Day 244 - A Year to Clear - What Different Spaces Feel Like

Lesson 244: What Different Spaces Feel Like

Today we are to tune in to different spaces. Go to one space that is full of clutter and notice how you are feeling and if your mood changes. Then, go to a space where you feel harmonious and notice your mood. Notice all the feelings during and after the experience and note them down. Can you compare the experiences without them being either good or bad? Once that is done, filled out the following sentences:

  • Sitting in a space that feels unloved, untended, dark, congested, and cluttered makes me feel [physically, mentally, emotionally]______
  • Sitting in a space that is harmonious, tended, light-filled, sparkly, and clutter-free makes me feel______
  • One small thing I can do today [this week] to change the way my home feels is______

    -------------

My dressing table is one of the most harmonious spots in my home. I made an effort a few weeks ago to really go through and get rid of old make up, I cleaned it up and organised it. to me, it’s currently sitting perfect the way it is. I feel good sitting in front of it when I need to put make up on or just to brush my hair. I even feel good looking at myself in the mirror.

I must say, the rest of my house is in a bit of disarray as some days I just chuck everything everywhere, then tidy up at the end of the week. I do look upon the rest of my home with dread. But I keep telling myself “get shit done” to push myself to make a difference in my own home. It’s not ideal trying to get through the mess but I am the one who created it. like vacuuming just now seemed like such an effort but I need to do it otherwise my house would be dusty as hell.

I guess the noticeable differences is that I’m so happy where my dressing table is but look elsewhere with dread. They aren’t really similar experiences but what I do want is to have that harmonious feeling towards my whole home. There is still stuff I want to get rid of or giveaway so they still take up space. To answer those sentences:

  • Sitting in a space that feels unloved, untended, dark, congested, and cluttered makes me feel dread and overwhelmed.
  • Sitting in a space that is harmonious, tended, light-filled, sparkly, and clutter-free makes me feel genuinely happy and at ease.
  • One small thing I can do today [this week] to change the way my home feels is move things around and find a place for everything to minimise the clutter.

Lesson 81: Tune Into Your Home or Workplace

Today is all about tuning into your home or workplace and see how it feels for you. What does the weather map show for you when you enter certain spaces or rooms? Are you more prone to go to certain rooms because it feels good?

At work, I love my current desk because it’s next to the window and it’s warming when the sun shines. I find it’s a more open space. I find the mood of the people can really make a room. If everyone is stressed then that can change the mood of the room. If you’re around approachable people, then the room is inviting and fun. Like today I had a laugh with my co-workers because of something funny that happened. The room really felt alive at that point but when we go back to our work, it’s quite settled and quiet.

If I think of my home, it’s a loft apartment and has open living. I really feel like something is missing even though it’s cluttered. I think the feeling is that I haven’t truly made the space my own. It’s more that I just live there. So I guess I feel a bit unsettled in my own home in this way. I will make it a good space to live in time but for now it seems very much incomplete and therefore I feel that way also.

What do your spaces feel like for you?
